It takes an adventurous soul to travel to a remote spot for a couple of days, to spend almost all one’s waking hours with a total stranger, without a clue as to whether the bed will be comfortable, the shower will have plenty of hot water, the coffee will be drinkable, or the food edible !

To reassure you before you make a reservation, here are some kind words my previous guests have offered – unsolicited! And before you read on, allow me to say that MY GUESTS ARE THE GREATEST.  I have met some of the nicest, most interesting, most creative people by inviting them to share my infatuation with stained glass.

From Bev of Dunnsville VA:

I just wanted to write you both on behalf of my group thank you for a truly fabulous weekend!! We all had a great time and we learned so much! Our husbands were truly impressed with our finished products and our glass looks stunning in our homes. Your instruction was personal, fun and your knowledge skill was truly impressive! We will definitely be back! Thanks again for a wonderful time great food, great people, beautiful home!

From Vic of Eastchester NY:

Barney & Bob I had a wonderful stay. You are marvelous hosts. Bob is a skillful and patient instructor. We had a few near-crashes, but learning to fly model helicopters isn’t easy! Your bed & breakfast is absolutely charming!
The best!

Hopefully I’ll be back with my wife. (she would be crazy about Kiah). The boat tour was absolutely great. I want to wish both of you the best of luck and good fortune, and hope to see you again.

(note: Vic did return with his wife Sandy, and she and Kiah are true pals, especially after she brought Kiah a very entertaining doggie ball on a rope)

From Pauline of Northern VA:

I want you to know how pleased my daughters and I are with our beautiful stained glass windows. All four of us enjoyed every moment of our time at Chestnut Cove – working on our windows, eating your delicious food and spending time with you in your beautiful setting. You two made the weekend very memorable. Thank you so very much for your hospitality and encouragement.

From Kelly of Boston MA:

THANK YOU for a wonderful weekend! I had a great time, and it was so nice to leave with a finished project. I love my teacup, and it is going to look great in my living room (I have a window that catches the afternoon sun – it will look great). My husband was very impressed!.... I would love to come back when I get another few days off of work and motherhood – maybe Lisa and I will start an annual tradition?? You are a wonderful cook – those cinnamon rolls will haunt me for a long time! It was wonderful to meet you and Bob. You are both truly inspiring! Thanks again for a wonderful getaway!

From Harold & Barbara of Washington DC:

What a delightful, fun and fulfilling weekend. So creative. The rain didn’t bother us a bit. Our final product is something we’ll have for ourselves and then for our children. And the food was fabulous. Barney and Bob, you’re terrific.

From Ann of Bethesda MD:

I’d heard and read so many great things about the two of you and the glass class, but there’s nothing like experiencing it for myself. I’m impressed with your warmth, hospitality and great food. Your home is warm, relaxing, and attractive. I relaxed more than I have in a long time, while Chuck did all the work – perfect! But we’ll return – thanks!

From Johanna of Passaic NJ:

Wonderful is an understatement! Delicious meals and good company only added to what was an enjoyable two days. Thanks

From Cheryl of Calvert County MD:

To the goddess Barney and Bob – you are a well oiled machine! Thanks so much for the hospitality. I never thought stained glass was such a workout! Tell Southern Living you also make the best French toast on earth! Thanks for such a great time and for filling a dream I’ve had for quite some time!

From David of Lewes UK:

Gosh I enjoyed last week so much and was so excited by how much my flying came on. It really was everything that I hoped it would be. Thank you Bob for your encouragement and enthusiasm. I learned so much from you and hope that the weather is good enough this weekend to try to put some of my new skills into practice.

From Mitch and Gina of Potomac Falls VA:

Thank you both for a wonderful weekend! My mirror makes me smile every time I look at it. Our mishaps worked out beautifully. Mitch is avidly flying his simulation program and a real helicopter! He is 100% addicted so you’ll be seeing us both soon for sure. Maybe Dad too!
